We make every effort to conceal the knots and grains on our painted finishes. However, due to natural resins within the knots and grains, we cannot completely eliminate them or guarantee to control them. Over time, some sooner than later, the knots and grains may bleed through and discolor the finish. This may be more apparent on light color finishes. This discoloration is not to be considered a defect in craftsmanship. Irregularities in the finishes are not to be considered defects. 

To minimize knots and bleeding, we can use poplar wood, if the piece is painted (for about $100).  Poplar is somewhat harder and more dent-resistant than pine.  Poplar is called 'Painters Wood' due to the smooth texture of the sanded wood. Poplar also has two very different colors---white and green----often in the same board----which makes the wood not worth staining. It takes paint very well.

Our finishes are a multi-step application.  They undergo a process of 5 layers of laquer paint and glazing....on all items the glazing gets into the edges and cracks and gives it that aged look.  Without the glaze, it would have a flat finish and be as durable.  Colors can and do vary.  The samples are not always the same as the batch when an item runs through paint/finishing department.
